Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
I have a question on the Ruger convertible Blackhawks, any GIMmers have one?
These revolvers have two cylinders, one for long colt, and one for .45 ACP. Do the ACP cylinders need a moonclip? If so, does one have to remove the cylinder to load and unload? Are they good guns? Thanks! |

I can't answer you're other questions, but I've shot & owned a few Ruger blackhawks............excellent revolver. AAA+ |

Re: Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
Good question, I'll be interested in the aswers as well. That Ruger sounds like a great idea, you get the power from the .45 LC and can use the much cheaper .45 ACP ammo. 2 handguns in 1.

Re: Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
Too bad Ruger doesn't make a .45ACP cylinder for my .454 Alaskan....that would be too cool.
I own a 22/45. a SP-101 and the Alaskan. Love Ruger. |

It headspaces on the rim.. I mean there is a shelf inside the chambers of the cylinder and the front of the brass is held in place there. If you reload don't crimp the bullet in place. great guns, but kinda slow on follow up shots. |

I have noticed the same difference with the .22LR/.22 Mag conversion...mine always shot the magnums better. And I bet you will have the same issues with the 9mm/.357 convertible models. By the way, since the .45 ACP cartridge seats in the cylinder on the case mouth, you will have to make sure to measure case-length and trim them periodically if you reload. EDIT: If you want a Ruger Blackhawk in a specific caliber go for it, but I would skip the convertible models. |
Re: Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
I was looking at the Ruger website, I don't see any Blackhawk models offered for sale. Are they still in production?

Re: Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
Thanks for the replies. I couldn't figure out how those 45 ACPs worked!

Re: Ruger Convertible Revolver ?
Knowing how to cast/reload is what makes them worthwhile, IMO.
Also, I don't have a link, but google Linebaugh. He had some really good write-ups on .45LC and such. Worth looking for. |
